CITY OF NEWBURGH — Ali T. Muhammad, 31, is challenging current Mayor Torrance Harvey, 47, in his bid for his first full-term as Newburgh mayor.
Muhammad was 23 when elected to the Beacon City Council.
He served two terms from 2013-17. He has been active in the Newburgh community since he was 4 years old. His father, Imam Salahuddin M. Muhammad, founded the Masjid Al Ikhlas mosque on Washington Terrace.
Muhammad wants to see more youth engagement, revitalization on Broadway and inner-city neighborhoods, and more accountability and accessibility in City Hall.
